I was talking to Julie the other day about things she has done for her health, and she shared about running the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, which is held in downtown San Jose every year on Thanksgiving morning, and it sounded very interesting to me.



There are several races that go on around this area.  Some of my friends have participated and I have done some volunteering in the past.  I thought I was done running races after I ran the San Francisco Marathon back in 2009. I started training a couple months before the race, but running up and down hills in San Francisco just killed my both knees and I barely walked after the race. It was not the best idea to run a full marathon for the very first race in my life.


But I still love running and I usually run on a treadmill for my training when I have time.  I always feel good after I run, but I feel like I have to keep running consistently so I can keep up my stamina and also keep my quality of my performance on the tennis court. 


I still don’t want to run a race competitively but I really like the idea of the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot. The idea is to get a little exercise before the big games, the big meal, the parades and the pies on Thanksgiving Day. I always feel a bit guilty during holiday season, especially Thanksgiving, because I don't really get to exercise like I usually do but definitely still eat more food!  But you know... I don’t want to deny Thanksgiving food either because it’s Thanksgiving!


So I’m thinking the Turkey Trot sounds like the best thing I can do on Thanksgiving Day!

AND this is the race's 10th Anniversary year!

They have kid’s fun run, 5K Run, 10K Walk, 10K Run, 10K wheelchair, and Elite 5K interval as well as CEL/Celebrity competition, Quickest Cop/Fastest Firefighter competition, and U.S. Milirary & Veterans 5 K & 10K competition. The cost is around $44 for 5K, 10K races and this goes to local charities!!


We still have 4 months to train, and the staff at The New Basis will be putting together a running group soon, so watch for details!
